The European Commission has informed the WTO of a draft decision aimed at establishing a glossary of commonly used ingredient names for cosmetic labelling.

The vocabulary will become part of the cosmetic product legislation, aiming at ensuring uniform labelling and facilitating the identification of cosmetic ingredients.

The proposed adoption date is the first quarter of 2019. It will take effect 20 days after the official communique of the European Union is issued.

The deadline for comments is 60 days after notification.

Last October, the EU Executive Committee informed the World Trade Organization of a draft amendment to cosmetics regulations to limit the use of chlorobenzimidazole as a preservative.
