The European Commission's Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) has issued preliminary opinions on the two cosmetics ingredients for public comment. The deadline for consultation is March 5. The two substances are:
Regarding hydroxyethoxyphenylbutanone (HEPB) - Considering that it is irritating to the eyes, it can be used as a cosmetic preservative in cosmetics such as flushing, oral care and residence, and its maximum safe concentration is 0.7%.
Regarding 2-methoxy-methyl-p-phenylenediamine and its sulfate (A160) - it is considered that this substance is safe in oxidized eyelash products with a maximum concentration of 1.8%.
At the same time, the DG Group of the Committee has asked the Committee to comment on the applicability of the Allergy Alert Test (AAT) in order to provide signals indicating allergic reactions to hair dyes when used by laymen - if applied under the conditions listed - if it has any further scientific concerns about the test.
